Judge deals blow to families suing Blackwater
The survivors of four Blackwater Worldwide contractors killed in a grisly ambush in Iraq five years ago have suffered yet another setback in their legal battle with the company. A federal administrative law judge ruled last week the children of one of the slain contractors should receive compensation through a government insurance program known as the Defense Base Act. It prohibits those eligible for benefits from filing lawsuits against companies covered by the insurance.

Afghan Subcontractor Accuses DynCorp of Fraud
An Afghan construction company and eight of its employees filed a federal lawsuit against Falls Church-based DynCorp International, alleging that the large government contractor engaged in fraud, threatened workers and took $2.5 million worth of equipment and materials that belonged to it.

No-Show Contractor Hit With $4.9M Default Judgment
When Lt. Col. Dominic R. Baragona died in a traffic accident on an Iraqi highway in 2003, few would have foreseen that his death would prompt a federal judge in Atlanta to levy a $4.9 million judgment against a U.S. military contractor in Kuwait. Defendant Kuwait & Gulf Link Transport Co., which transports supplies into Iraq, is one of the U.S. military's largest contractors in the Middle East. The company has $100 million a year in Army contracts and also handles subcontracts.

Blackwater 'trade secrets' lawsuit settled out of court
A long-running lawsuit in which Blackwater USA accused a former employee of stealing trade secrets has ended with a whimper. The case, which featured a late-night police raid and allegations of false imprisonment, has been settled out of court. The terms are confidential. Each side must pay its own attorney fees and costs.

Triple Canopy Cleared in Two Firings
Triple Canopy did not wrongly fire two employees who reported seeing their supervisor randomly shoot into two Iraqi civilian vehicles in Baghdad last year, a Fairfax County jury ruled yesterday. But the jury also issued a harshly worded note criticizing the company's actions.
