Wartime Contracting team gathers data in Kuwait and Iraq
A team from the federal Commission on Wartime Contracting in Iraq and Afghanistan has begun a 10-day, information-gathering trip to Kuwait and Iraq to examine plans for transferring or disposing of billions of dollars’ worth of contractor-acquired, government-owned property as the United States prepares its withdrawal from Iraq, and to pursue other queries.

U.S. security firms vie for Mexican drug war work
As Mexico battles to keep a lid on raging drug war violence, U.S. companies are fighting over millions of dollars in contracts for military equipment and training under a long-promised U.S aid package. Private U.S. security firms will get the bulk of a $1.4 billion package pledged by the United States in 2007. Only a fraction of the aid has been delivered so far.

US Embassy: 2 more US contractors released in Iraq
Two more U.S. contractors have been released on bond but face an ongoing investigation, the embassy said Saturday, the latest development in the first case of Americans facing Iraqi justice under a new security pact. Two other Americans remained in custody while a fifth was freed on bond Thursday.

Contractor oversees security guards in Afghanistan
A major security contractor is running an office overseeing armed guards in Afghanistan, a situation at odds with the Pentagon's claim that military officers would be in charge of such sensitive work. A new report on wartime spending to be made public Wednesday at a congressional hearing says the contractor, Aegis Defense Services, has operated with limited U.S. government supervision.
