Judge Denies ArmorGroup and Wackenhut Motions to Dismiss Lawsuit
Judge James Cacheris has denied Defendants ArmorGroup North America ("AGNA"), ArmorGroup International, Wackenhut Services, Inc., and Cornelius Medley's motions to dismiss whistleblower James Gordon's lawsuit brought under the False Claims Act, about illegalities committed by ArmorGroup in the performance of AGNA's contracts with the United States to provide security services at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan and at the U.S. Naval base in Bahrain.

U.S. Sues KBR Over Improper Costs for Private Security In Iraq
The United States has filed a lawsuit against Kellogg Brown & Root Services (KBR) alleging that the defense contractor violated the False Claims Act, the Justice Department announced yesterday. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, alleges that KBR knowingly included impermissible costs for private armed security in billings to the Army under the Logistics Civil Augmentation Program (LOGCAP) III contract.

Woman awarded $3M in assault claim against KBR
A woman who claimed she was raped in 2005 while working in Iraq for a former Halliburton Co. subsidiary has been awarded nearly $3 million by an arbitrator to settle her case. Tracy Barker had sued U.S. contractor KBR Inc., its former parent company Halliburton and several affiliates in May 2007, claiming she was sexually attacked by a State Department employee while working as a civilian contractor in the southern Iraqi city of Basra.

Judge deals blow to families suing Blackwater
The survivors of four Blackwater Worldwide contractors killed in a grisly ambush in Iraq five years ago have suffered yet another setback in their legal battle with the company. A federal administrative law judge ruled last week the children of one of the slain contractors should receive compensation through a government insurance program known as the Defense Base Act. It prohibits those eligible for benefits from filing lawsuits against companies covered by the insurance.

Afghan Subcontractor Accuses DynCorp of Fraud
An Afghan construction company and eight of its employees filed a federal lawsuit against Falls Church-based DynCorp International, alleging that the large government contractor engaged in fraud, threatened workers and took $2.5 million worth of equipment and materials that belonged to it.

No-Show Contractor Hit With $4.9M Default Judgment
When Lt. Col. Dominic R. Baragona died in a traffic accident on an Iraqi highway in 2003, few would have foreseen that his death would prompt a federal judge in Atlanta to levy a $4.9 million judgment against a U.S. military contractor in Kuwait. Defendant Kuwait & Gulf Link Transport Co., which transports supplies into Iraq, is one of the U.S. military's largest contractors in the Middle East. The company has $100 million a year in Army contracts and also handles subcontracts.

Blackwater 'trade secrets' lawsuit settled out of court
A long-running lawsuit in which Blackwater USA accused a former employee of stealing trade secrets has ended with a whimper. The case, which featured a late-night police raid and allegations of false imprisonment, has been settled out of court. The terms are confidential. Each side must pay its own attorney fees and costs.
